In this video I discuss the difference between an M.2 SSD and a NVME PCI-Ex4 SSD. From how to tell them apart just by looking at them and little bit about recent computer storage history of that explains how we got to this point.
I hope this video clears up the technical mumbo-jumbo using simple, easy to understand language.

Very useful thanks. Been ages since I passed my A+ certification. Amazing tech these days.
OMG! Can't believe he did such a good job explaining that topic! Love the way he explained it all very patiently!
The best explained….Thanks so much.
o' I just happened to watch this video [you explained well tnx a lot 🙂 ] annnnd visit your channel… it's great!
Great video! Really well explained!
Enjoyed the information. Real-time how much will we actually see the difference between SATA, Me and NVME?
He said, "Im the OG!" I love this man!!! Thank you for such a quality video!!!
Just found this video and its been the biggest help to me so far with SSD's
Thank you. Finally got my confusion out of the way. So, it was that some motherboards have m.2 slots that support both nvme m.2 and m.2 ssd.
Thanks to you and boos to whoever came with the worst way of naming these.
earned a sub
Thanks for the walk down memory lane with MFM and RLL!
Great video. I needed direct suggestions like you delivered with some presentation slides which are also in this video. A perfect combination of both! Thank you.
Is this the Scotty Kilmer of electronics 🤔
Excellent info. I’ve always relied on the auto setting but from what you say that might be a mistake. Easily changed in the bios so that’s something new I’ve learned today.
Came in here thinking this guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Left realising I didn't. Thanks for sharing 😉
Can I use the one that looks like chewing gum? I heard it’s cheap and has infinite storage
He looks like Arturo roman
awesome shirt!!!
just overall great job man! just watched this in 2020 and this is super helpful!
Excelente video! Por fin alguien que explica bien este tema! Gracias por compartir!
Muchas gracias me ayudo mucho el video 2020
Earned my Subscribe button. Thanks man. Learned a lot
im the OG Original Gamer… touche hahahahaha
I felt like in a personal conversation. No music, right on front of me.
Optane is crap.
I have Optane in my laptop, it's kind of a hybrid with Optane and NVMe on the same chip(500GB NVMe, 32GB Optane).
It's supposed to cache data and increase boot speeds, but all it does is reduce the write speed of the whole SSD.
When I enabled Optane, I was getting 1300 read, 300 write speeds(MB/s).
When I disabled it through the BIOS, I got 1300 read, 950 write.
Go figure.
Thank you so much for this! I very nearly purchased a SATA M.2 drive by mistake, but a review I read made me wonder why it was so "slow" compared to what I expected. I then learned it was one of those SATA M.2 drives (no wonder it's so cheap!), and your video finally taught me what that difference actually is, and how to differentiate the two.
Great video. THX
So glad that Arturo from Money Heist explained everything in such a beautiful manner. Thanks Arturo.
MFM, RLL my old friends.. just like EISA slots. If you are familiar with those expressions than you are old…
I can't quite remember what PC I was given first. But I do know it had 5.25 inch floppy drives. 128kb or something in ram. 16 or 32 colour display adaptor. And no one knew how to operate it. Was the first time I rebuilt a computer. 90's were fun.
I do believe we go back to about the same time in computers. I remember discussing hard drives with a manager at work, and I told him computers had reached a limit with the speed of IDE hard drives. I said, until they get faster there won't be much advance in speed. So, what did they do? They came up with Raid drives.
Now that I saw your video, and got the inside on how NVME works, I see they resolved a problem we both saw, parallel is inherently faster. I also wondered why they did that, but now I see how they have resolved it. Thanks for the info.
Oh, I annoyed the hell out of my boss when I wrote self modifying bat files for dos computers. When a pic of a nicely displayed young lady popped up on his computer he had no idea how it happened, and could not find the pic on the computer after boot up.
Hey, his own fault for not realizing a prime rule of computers, to really learn them you have to PLAY with them.
